What are Houses in Astrology
The Houses are the sections of the birthchart, usually starting at the horizon and moving counterclockwise.
These Houses are also known as the 'sthan' or 'Ghar' and 'Bhav'.
They signify the different areas of life experience, giving added meaning to the interpretation of a planet in a person’s chart.

First Type of Classification of Houses:
There are different kinds of houses according to the Vedic Astrology scheme.
Dharma: 1, 5, and 9th houses
Dharma houses have to do with our life’s mission, our “calling” which honors the divine flame in us, and how we are special to the universe. The dharma houses are considered quite fortunate and spiritual. It signifies the duties/ responsibilities of a person towards each member of his family, towards society etc.
Kama: 3, 7, and 11th houses
Kama houses have to do with physical life and the enjoyments thereof: excitement and adventure, love, and financial rewards, etc. . Ambition and desires.
Moksha: 4, 8, and 12th
Moksha houses have to do with ultimate spiritual liberation, true happiness and compassion. Less attachment with things. Person will be happy by giving whatever he can without any expectation from them.
Artha: 2, 6, and 10th
Artha houses have to do with honors, prestige, financial matters, career and success. Money-minded.
Dusthana: 6, 8 and 12th
Dusthana houses have to do with challenge, overcoming and karma-balancing.​

Trikonas: The Trikonas, houses 1, 5, and 9, and their lords, are the most auspicious houses in the chart. The Trikonas are Dharmasthanas. They bring spirituality, knowledge, goodness, generosity, wealth and fame, especially if they are well endowed.

Upachaya: The Upachaya, houses 3, 6, 10, and 11. The term “Upachaya” comes from the Sanskrit word meaning “increase” or “improvement.” Simply put, Upachaya houses are those parts of life where we need to put in consistent effort, and the more we work, the better the results. These houses show gradual progress rather than immediate outcomes.
