27 Nakshatras and their connection with the Rashis/ Padas
While Western astrology deals with Sun signs, Vedic astrology is based on Moon signs. The Sun spends a month in each Zodiac sign, so Sun sign predictions are rather broad-based and are applicable to a large number of people. The Moon, on the other hand, spends only 2.5 days in each sign, so the reading will be more personalized and specific.

Each Rashi covering 2 full and 1 quarter Nakshatra
Rashis and their Nakshatras
The 12 Rashis form the zodiac, a space in the sky resembling an orbit. This orbit has 12 divisions called Zodiac Signs. A single Zodiac Sign is called a Rashi. Put together, they complete a full cycle around the earth in the sky that resembles a orbit. The planets (grahas) and nakshatras (stars) are found within this small space.
-
Each Rashi is assigned 30 degrees, as there are 12 Rashis that completes 360 degrees.
-
Each Nakshatra is assigned 13.33 degrees as there are 27 Nakshatras that completes 360 degrees.
-
So each Rashi is can cover 2 quarter Nakshatras

Nakshatras and Padas
The Pada system can be seen as a system which integrates the Nakshatras with the commonly used Zodiac. In each Nakshatra there are 4 Padas. Therefore, in 27 Nakshatras we have 108 Padas.

-
Each Nakshatra is assigned 13.33 degrees (13 degrees and 20 minutes) as there are 27 Nakshatras that completes 360 degrees.

Each Pada is assigned 3.33 degrees (or 3 degrees and 20 minutes) as there are 108 Padas that completes 360 degrees.

Importance of Nakshatra Pada

As pada is a further sub-division of a nakshatra, and its planetary influences are different from other padas of the same nakshatra, it modifies the general traits of the nakshatra it belongs to.
The specific pada in which a person is born within the same nakshatra, can provide far deeper insights into the modified personality traits, behavior and destiny of the native. Therefore, it is pertinent to take into account the nakshatra division for accurate horoscope analyses.

That apart, in predictive astrology, nakshatra padas are pivotal in timing events, as they influence planetary dasha (periods) and transits. They are also essential in determining compatibility in matchmaking (guna milan), where the subtle differences in padas can impact relationship dynamics.

The 27 Nakshatras cover 13°20’ of the ecliptic each.
Each Nakshatra is further divided into 9 unequal parts, which are known as sub parts and lord of that each is known as Sub Lord. In that way Sub lord becomes more powerful than the Nakshatra and Nakshatra becomes more powerful than the planets.
